Oeno Maris Nights: Wasted Wine Club & Japanese Grill | 2nd of Aug | From 5pm
Let’s get our grooooove on … seafood on the Japanese robota grill & tunes spinning on the decks in the wine room … all in celebration of the 5th birthday of Wasted Wine Club - so for sure there will be some great wine with a conscience to keep us all quenched.
Angelo, local friend & founder of Wasted Wine Club will be on hand, pouring & chatting all things sustainable wine throughout the evening … and we will be blessed within him spinning some records on the sound system for a chill Summer sun-downer.
For eats, team Oeno Maris has designed four different Kushiyaki, or Japanese seafood skewers, that the mongers will be grilling up on the robata throughout the evening. Think:
Tsubugai Kushiyaki - French Whelks, shoyu-butter
Hotate Yaki - plump, sweet Scallops, seasoned with a tare soy glaze
Ankou no Saikyo-yaki - chunks of Monkfish, marinated for days in miso, sake & mirin
Iwashi Kushiyaki - fresh whole Sardines, coarse Maldon sea salt, citrus
Your ticket includes two skewers of your choice & one glass of wine. Of course, you can purchase additional food & drinks on the evening. Swing by, grab a glass & a bite, hang with the ‘hood.
Food served from 5-8:30pm. The terrace out front will be open! This will be a highly attended social event. Plan to be outdoors, though indoor seating is available - first come, first serve. Tickets mandatory. Doors shut at 10pm.
About Wasted Wine Club: @wastedwineclub
The Wasted Wine Club is an altruistic endeavour focusing on sustainability in the wine industry. It's a crazy idea, but winemakers often end up with excess wine. It might be because of a bumper crop, contracts with farmers, or simply because they haven’t been able to get the wine to market. And so what happens then? Often, these wines will be blended away, sold off for bulk, or in the worst instances, poured down the drain. Yup, you heard it right. Sometimes it’s cheaper to bin it than it is to bottle, label and ship it.
And that’s where Wasted Wine Club step in ... they take these wayward wines, curate a new wine in collaboration with a talented winemaker, and make sure none of it goes to waste! You know what to do next …
Angelo Van Dyk, the founder of Wasted Wine Club is a winemaker and wine importer, splitting his time between London and his homeland, South Africa where he vinifies local grapes under his label - Yo El Rey. Amidst it all, Angelo is also part of the team at the importer Modal Wines in London, one of Oeno Maris’ faves.
